God made people in His image. Even more, He made fathers in His image.
God created dads. Growing up I had the best father. God blessed me with the best dad. But, not only did I have a great dad, but my best friend’s dad was like a father to me. I know my dad is a gift from God. Here is a list of promises God gave fathers.
“For I have chosen him (Dads – my emphasis) so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” Genesis 18:19 (NIV).
“In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26 (NIV).
“Listen to your father, who gave you life…” Proverbs 23:22a (NIV).
“The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.” Proverbs 23:24 (NIV).
“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction…I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to the father…Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.” Proverbs 4:1-4 (NIV).
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV).
“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” Malachi 4:6 (NIV).
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” Psalm 103:13 (NIV).
“Your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.” Psalm 128:3b-4 (NIV).
These Scriptures are a few of many promises God gave dads. God loves dads, and God has a plan for dads. Dads should be appreciated by their children. By the way, Dad, I love you an awful lot, too. Thank you for being my dad! Happy Father’s Day!
